director-e The History behind the Website Family

director-e is one of the best known and most successful names in the e-commerce world and provides an indispensable service to the textile and fashion industry. As well as specialising in corporate clothing, director-e provides constantly updated news and features to keep suppliers informed of events happening all over the world. The internet-based service also allows customers to go directly to the suppliers and distributors that they need to keep their businesses thriving.

The director-e Family Tree

The idea for director-ecame to its founder, Yvette Ashby, during a depression in the textile and fashion industry in 1999. Realising that the market needed a service that would provide suppliers and buyers with easy access to new sources and worldwide news, Yvette used her experience in accountancy and publishing to put together a business plan that resulted in the www.director-e.com's debut in April 2000.

Recognising the importance and usefulness of the site, news sponsors and advertisers flocked to it and before long the site had tens of thousands of registered viewers worldwide. Today the site pulls in 700,000 page views and 60,000 readers every month, and is viewed on computer screens in countries as far apart as the USA and Australia. The rapid success of director-e resulted in the development of fabricdirector-e, which was the first fabrics website in the UK. The site allows manufacturers and designers worldwide to source fabrics easily, as well as read features on companies in the industry.

Soon afterwards came tradedirector-e, the first online, trade-only website dedicated to promoting manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors of corporate and promotional clothing, industrial workwear and accessories worldwide. The director-e family was completed by ITWebdirector-e, which specialises in the design and development of data-driven business sites and is continuing to gain momentum and recognition in the industry on a daily basis.

director-ehas also put together several well-received seminars, including two on the complexities of trading with China. The first of the China seminars was held in Derby football ground in 2003 and garnered an impressive 175 attendees. The follow-up was held in the beautiful Woburn Abbey in 2005 and gathered together a select audience of around 100 members.

Looking to the Future

After five years of experience, director-e lies at the heart of the textile and fashion industry and is now a recognised media sponsor of Premiere Vision and Texworld, the largest fabric events in the industry. Further textiles seminars are also planned. ITWebdirector-e is already planning years ahead and is heavily involved in developing new methods of success for businesses using the latest software systems.

Yvette Ashby feels confident about the company's ability to adapt and grow with the industry. She said: "We pride ourselves on offering a web development service tailor-made for each of our clients individual requirements, by listening to and understanding their needs. We design technology for tomorrow."
